This well loved, mixed border garden at the parking lot Library entrance was designed and installed by The Women Gardeners when the addition was completed in 1998. Many of the perennials are divisions from our members' own gardens. We are currently in the process of redesigning the beds to provide four seasons of interest. The permanent courtyard planters are also included in our care. 

Ruth Nicoll McDevitt, a past president, was instrumental in the basic design of the park. Members are continuing her legacy by planting out the beds along Ridgewood Avenue with perennials, shrubs and seasonal annuals. Dormant beds are also decorated for the holidays with colorfully wrapped presents.

This small garden beside the old Lester Stable was created for the pleasure of Village residents, as well as a butterfly garden for our Green Kids Program. It received the official National Wildlife Certificate that certifies that this garden provides food, water, shelter and a place to raise young.

The former horse farm has become a Village park.  Members of our Garden Club and the Conservancy for Ridgewood Public Lands have enhanced the entrance way with a new sign and landscaping.  Members have changed the mulch pathway into an arboretum using many native plants which borders the pond. It is planted with many flowers and shrubs that attract birds, bees and butterflies.

Members regularly create a fresh floral arrangement for the reception desk. Additionally, member groups create a seasonal hallway display four times yearly.

On years alternating with our “Secret Gardens” tours, our members arrange a gardening event for the community, with speakers and presenters who represent a variety of niches in the gardening world. Proceeds of the day allow us to fund the many outreach projects we have undertaken over the years.

Every other year members organize a tour of private gardens in Ridgewood and the surrounding area. Proceeds from the tour directly support the organization’s ongoing projects in the Village.  2024 marks the 100th Anniversary Tour.

A room at the Gatehouse in Habernickel Park opened in 2017 which houses Women Gardeners of Ridgewood (WGR) materials and other gardening resources.  The Resource Room, located on the 2nd floor at 1057 Hillcrest Road in Ridgewood,  is open to the public and other Village groups for consultation with WGR members.  Please drop in during the designated hours with any of your gardening questions or concerns.

The underwriting and designing of floral decorations for charity fundraising group events has become another way The Women Gardeners of Ridgewood has contributed to the community.

Through our fundraising efforts, we recognize and give one more more scholarships to outstanding Ridgewood High School seniors who are dedicated to protecting and improving the environment.
